Our Story
It all started with 4 acres of ancestral land, and a dream...
Years ago, P. Bhuvaneswari stood in front of the ancestral land inherited by her husband. The soil was rocky and the land was devoid of life. Still, she dreamed that she could one day produce nutritious food for her family and community, just as her father had done.
From Bhuvaneswari’s dream, our farm was born...
Beginning in 1996, Bhuvaneswari began her journey to regenerate the soil and bring life, nutrients, and biodiversity back to the land. She cleared the land with her young son Sajith and got a loan from the bank to buy 2 cows, whose milk helped her earn income while she prepared the land for agriculture.
She took many lessons from pioneers in organic farming, including Dr. Subhash Palekar. She started buying more of the surrounding land and applying traditional mixtures of cow urine and dung (‘panchagavya’, ‘jeevamrutham’) to the earth, bringing life back into the soil.
Today, our farmland is an oasis of fruit orchards, paddy, and sesame fields…
The name "Ammachi’s Organic Farms" is due to the fact "Ammachi" means mother in Malayalam, and Bhuvaneswari acts as a mother to every plant, animal, and person she comes across. She is driven by her love for nature and for people, understanding her work as providing healthy food for her community, supporting the life of all the plants and animals on her farm, and preserving nature for future generations through her sustainable farming techniques, free from harmful chemicals. She operates the farm in harmony with nature, with the produce grown using organic fertilizers. Her vision is supported by her dedicated family and farm team.
